  1. In planning your museum’s activities for the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War, I hope that you will consider giving coverage to (1) the critical role that the mines near Ducktown had in providing much of the copper needed by the Confederacy, and (2) the story of the Cleveland copper rolling mill and the people responsible for its development and operation (a brief history due to its destruction during the war).

    Good luck!

  2. Thanks Mike – Funny you should mention this as I was just at a meeting today on the commemoration. While Ducktown is out of our county so a bit out of our area of coverage, the copper rolling mill and its destruction will be mentioned in an exhibit we are planning. We are also planning a series of reenactments of events each year starting next year. Keep watching the blog (and the Chamber’s website) to see as our plans develop! Curious to know why your interest? Are you from the area? Feel free to answer me at lisa@museumcenter.org. Thanks again for your interest. Also we have a facebook page if you want to keep up with the museum!
